A General Way to Achieve Spiritual Meditation
In almost all religions of the world, from ancient Hindu practices to Christian prayers to Islamic variations, meditation has been used one way or another to attain spiritual enlightenment. Spiritual meditation may involve either or both physical and mental exercises that will help you become closer to your Maker. If you are a devoted follower of any religion, a bit of research will surely let you know the best way to meditate, in your religion?s perspective, to achieve spiritual union with God.
A General Way to Achieve Spiritual Meditation If, however, you don?t wish to use the specific meditation practices advocated by your religion then here?s a simple meditation technique that can help you get closer to God, whoever He is to you.
Examine your faith. Spiritual meditation cannot be accomplished if you don?t even have one iota of faith in God. Through spiritual meditation, burgeoning faith may grow and develop while faith that has been with you for years will be further strengthened. Without faith, you cannot complete the process of spiritual meditation.
Find a suitable environment for meditation. Old-timers can meditate anytime anywhere, but for novices like you, it?s best that you find a quiet and peaceful environment where you can be alone as long as you like. Find a comfortable position as well. This technique doesn?t require you to take any particular pose; all it needs you to do is find a position you can hold for at least fifteen minutes.
Spiritual meditation is a two-way process even if it doesn?t seem like it. You may not actually hear God speaking to you when you meditate, but spiritual meditation can make His message clear to you.
Start with several breathing exercises to make your mind and body relax. Forget all about your problems and worries for the moment and concentrate on enjoying the opportunity of being one with God. If you?re lucky, you could reach the ideal state of consciousness ? somewhere between fully awake and half-sleeping ? at your first try.
Let yourself dwell on the memories of the past, particularly on those that you had felt God?s presence. Bad memories must not hurt you because they?re just experiences that teach you to be tougher and wiser. Good memories must be cherished. Either way, you should be thankful to God for giving you these memories.
Look inward next. Reflect on who you are, who you were, who you are about to become, and who you really want to become. Be candid while considering your strengths and weaknesses.
Think about your relationship with God. Who is He to you? In what capacity have you allowed him to take part in your life? What do you wish to achieve with spiritual meditation? Are there any questions you wish God to answer for you? Are you waiting for a certain plea to be granted, a problem to be solved, a mystery uncovered?
Lastly, listen and wait. Believe that God will hear your prayers through spiritual meditation and maybe even in this very session, you?ll have the answers you need. But if not, it?s alright. Continue to believe because that?s what God likes most and that?s what will keep you closer to Him.
