Religion in Luxembourg - An Online Directory
22 January 2011 -- The website www.religion.lu was launched in January 2011, shortly after Jean-Francois Mayer, a Swiss scholar on contemporary religion and editor of Religioscope, acquired the domain name.
"Frankly, I was surprised to see that religion.lu still remained available, says Mayer. When I noticed that, I thought instantly that I should buy it and try to develop it. As a first step, a directory, a listing of religious groups in Luxembourg sorted by categories, seemed to be the obvious thing to do."
Indeed, while pieces of information on various groups could be found scattered across various sites in French, English or German, www.religion.lu is the first attempt at creating a comprehensive directory of religions in Luxembourg. At this stage, the website is in French, but even for English-speaking visitors, it is easy to understand the meaning of each section, to navigate and to find relevant information and links. At a later stage, it is planned to make the website bilingual or trilingual.
"Obviously, there will still be some missing groups or information requiring to be updated. It is bound to be so with any directory of that kind, and I will be grateful for people who can provide additional information or updated through the contact form made available on the website."
In the future, Jean-Francois Mayer also hopes to add to documentary material on religion in Luxembourg.
